Higgins Brothers Surgicenter for Hope

Being the only destination on our itinerary this year that both Christy and I have been to before, Haitian Christian Mission in Haiti is special to return to, this time with our son. It has been a huge climate change from Kenya, but we are quickly adjusting and finding our place within this beautiful community that is brimming with activity.

Saturday was an exciting day, as the first surgery was performed at the Higgins Brothers Surgicenter for Hope, HCM's latest building project. This is a short video we put together to commemorate the occasion:

We quickly realized from the Royals nurse's caps that the medical team is from Kansas City. Dr. Higgins began annual trips to offer healthcare in the Dominican Republic back in 1992, and first teamed up with HCM in 2010.

It was such a humbling experience to have the privilege to enter the OR during the surgery in order to capture some footage. It felt very sacred. At one point, River made a small noise and Dr. Higgins said, "Is there a baby in here? I love that!" The building is still under construction, and there remains much work to be done to prepare for the grand opening that is scheduled for later this year. The dream is to become a 24/7 surgery center for the surrounding community of Fonds Parisien and beyond. You can read more about the Higgins Brothers Surgicenter for Hope here.

We are continuously amazed at all of the wonderful ministries and projects that have their root in HCM. During our time here over the next six weeks, we will be creating a collection of videos that helps to communicate what is happening in many of these ministries, and how people can get involved. †

We are Derrick and Christy Collins, the parents of two sons, River and August. We thrive off of partnering with people to create things that are meaningful to them and life-giving to all. Our desire with Wild Bridge Travels is toimmerse ourselves in four
Christian communities of a particular country and

culture very different from our own for two months each. We hope in some small way to join Christ’s work of building bridges among his people by creating a film showcasing a handful of honest, inspiring human

portraits. The film is currently in the post-production stage.
