Daily Life

The overarching hope in our trip is in some small way to build bridges among Christ's people by creating a film showcasing a handful of honest, inspiring human portraits—humans in various cultures, all ardently following their King. But we don't plan to show up with video cameras in hand. Our first, primary hope is to be incorporated into the daily life of each community we visit; to be immersed for three months in a particular Christian community of a particular country and culture very different from our own. In each of the places we visit, we are prayerful that Jesus will reveal who we are meant to spend time filming. Our hope is to experience the common Spirit working in the church. To experience the beautiful complexities and the encompassing oneness that being led by the Spirit leads us into. And as a result, we desire to be used to further unify the church through the power of witness!

Here are some specific ways we expect to serve during our time in each country:

Art Classes: Teaching fundamental art and giving room for expression to children who would not likely otherwise have the opportunity to do so. We are deeply aware of so much of the world never being able to make discoveries of their abilities due to the demanding daily tasks of survival. Our hope is to bring dignity and healing to these children through the vehicle of art. We seek to consistently offer these classes to children in each place we live.

Media: Empowering the organizations we partner with during our stay with artistic films that clearly communicate their heart, their needs and their happenings to their supporters.

Filling in the gaps: Offering our time, energy and strength towards any number of odd ends and tasks that may be helpful. (Dishes, laundry, food prep, farm chores, watching children, really anything we can do!) Although we want to serve in any way we can, we don’t view ourselves as missionaries so much as students. We want to be students of what God is doing among his people. †

We are Derrick and Christy Collins, the parents of two sons, River and August. We thrive off of partnering with people to create things that are meaningful to them and life-giving to all. Our desire with Wild Bridge Travels is toimmerse ourselves in four
Christian communities of a particular country and

culture very different from our own for two months each. We hope in some small way to join Christ’s work of building bridges among his people by creating a film showcasing a handful of honest, inspiring human

portraits. The film is currently in the post-production stage.
